The slow-witted Simpsons star was named philosopher of the decade by a team of experts for Men’s Health magazine.

TV chef Jamie Oliver, writer Ian McEwan and England football manager Man health care product Eriksson were also on the list.

Editor Morgan Rees said Homer “taught a generation how to take on the challenge of modern man health workout routine and win”.

“Although not always with honour,” added Mr Rees.

The list features 10 categories, with each man representing a different area of expertise.

Designer Sir Paul Smith, cyclist Lance Armstrong, iPod creator Jonathan Ive and geneticist Craig Venter complete the list.

“These are people of real substance and solid achievement rather than temporary fame,” said Mr Rees.

“The people on our list have used their talents to change the world around them, rather than just to draw attention to themselves.”
